Overview

Map Works operates a single 8,000-square-foot facility in Westmar Offices on Buffalo Road in Gates, New York. About half of that space is devoted to warehouse operations with the remainder split between administrative, call-center and map production areas. The company presently employs 15 full-time people.

Renovation

In 2005 Map Works celebrated the completion of its 10-year transition to digital cartography with the opening of a new digital cartography lab and conference room. The new facilities occupy the space formerly devoted to Map Works’ darkroom and manual cartography lab. The renovation marks a milestone in the company’s 30-year history of leading-edge cartographic research and design.

Cartography and map production

In addition to the new digital lab, Map Works has dedicated space for cartographic research, as well as its digital CYMK plotter, which is used to print all of Map Works’ wall maps.

Call center

For several years, Map Works has operated a successful in-house call center, focusing on direct-to-business sales of map advertising space, wall maps, and custom maps.
